Regular Services

Church services in a variety of styles are offered by Ashburton Anglicans throughout each month, including monthly all-age services, Taizé-style reflective worship and Evensong.

8am Sunday Service
St Stephen’s

  • A traditional Anglican service that follows the NZ Prayer Book, with Eucharist, without music.

10am Sunday Service
St Stephen’s

  • A family-friendly traditional Anglican service, with Eucharist, Children’s activity area (art materials, books and toys), followed by a shared morning tea. Music includes pipe organ, piano and choir, with hymns and songs from across the centuries (including music from the NZ Hymnbook Trust).
    1 hour service

  • Held on the first Sunday of the month in the hall, our All-age Service has a focus on children and their families. Children meet for worship preparation and pizza a few days before the service, and are involved in leading the service. Everyone is seated at round tables within reach of the craft activities which are a feature of the service, and we finish with a sausage sizzle together.

St Andrew’s

  • A family-friendly traditional Anglican service, with Eucharist, Children’s activity corner, Music includes electronic organ and piano, with hymns and songs from across the centuries (including music from the NZ Hymnbook Trust).

  • A traditional Holy Communion service, using the Book of Common Prayer (1928), without music.

5pm Monthly Sunday Service
St Stephen’s

  • Alternating Evensong (even months) Taizé-style reflective services (odd months) on the first Sunday of the month.
    60min service

    Evensong Service
    A traditional service with readings, hymns, sung Psalms and a sermon.

    Taizé-style Service
    A meditative service with repetitive chant-style music, following a seasonal theme. Use of candles and other visual aids to inspire prayer. Includes a 20min period of reflective silence.

12pm Ecumenical Tongan language service
St Stephen’s Chapel

  • An ecumenical all-age service of worship and praise in the Tongan language. Most of the services follow the Tongan Methodist format, so is easily recognisable to people of the Tongan culture.
